Practice Tips

Month 10 Teaching: June 2016

Month 10 is a time of new beginnings. Dr. Pillai says that 10 is 1 + 0 = 1, which signifies a new beginning.

Ganesha is number 1. Ganesha always comes first. Ganesha is OM – the sound from which everything starts.

Your daily practice for Month 10 should incorporate two different meditations given by Dr. Pillai. The first meditation is a short technique with OM and can be done throughout the day. The second meditation incorporates your yantra and should be done at least once a day.

Meditation #1 - OM Meditation

When to do it:

#1 – Do this meditation as much as possible throughout the day.

#2 – You many want to do it with a specific task or at a specific time each day so you remember it by association.

#3 – For example, do the OM Meditation:

  • First thing after you shower
  • When you are preparing breakfast
  • When you commute to work
  • Before you open your email or login to social media
  • When you go on a walk or take a morning break
  • While cooking dinner
  • Before you go to bed each night

Select a few specific times throughout the day and do the meditation.

You can also do it any time you feel anxious, nervous, stressed, angry, confused, depressed, etc.

It will help you change your focus and return to the creative power of OM.

OM Meditation Practice Steps:

 #1 – Close Your Eyes.

#2 – Put attention on your two nostrils.

#3 – Put attention on your pituitary gland (in between 2 eyebrows).

#4 – Feel your root chakra (at the base of the spine).

The pituitary gland (third eye chakra) is connected to the root (mooladhara) chakra. Ganesha sits at both of these locations in your subtle body. Feel the connection between the pituitary and the root chakra.

#5 – Chant the sound OM.

#6 – Feel your entire brain and your entire body vibrate with the sound OM.

This meditation only takes a few seconds and helps you connect directly with Ganesha through OM.

Meditation #2 - Ganesha Yantra Meditation

This daily meditation utilizes your personal copper plate (yantra), which Dr. Pillai has blessed and you have inscribed with the sacred geometry for Ganesha.

*If you have not yet received your copper plate, do not worry; all packages have been shipped and are in transit through the postal service. You can use your own copper plate for now or simply draw the geometry and words on paper and use that until you receive your special copper plate.

External Practice:

Connecting with your yantra enhances the power of the yantra in your mind, body, and soul. To connect externally on a DAILY basis:

#1 – Show light to the yantra (offer a ghee lamp or candle).

#2 – Offer incense to the yantra.

#3 – Hydrate the yantra (sprinkle just a few drops of water on it).

#4 – Offer a sweet food to the yantra (Dr. Pillai offers M&M candies, so select something you like).

#5 – Offer a flower to the yantra, if you have one.

Internal Practice:

Use the yantra during meditation to internally connect with Ganesha.

#1 – Place the yantra on your LEFT palm – the geometric design facing upward.

#2 – Put your RIGHT palm over the yantra (so the yantra is in between the 2 palms).

#3 – Feel the two palms, just feel the energy, and do not even think about Ganesha.

With the yantra in between your two palms, meditate on the sounds in the “outer triangles of the yantra.” Chant the sounds in this (clockwise) order:

1) OM

2) GUNG (also spelled GANG)

3) GA

4) NA

5) PA

6) THI (sounds like tee)

Next, focus on the sounds in the middle of the yantra. Put the sounds in the corresponding parts of the brain:

  • HEEM: in your LEFT BRAIN
  • HOOM: in your RIGHT BRAIN
  • EEM: in your MIDBRAIN (rising up from base of brain to midbrain)
  • KREEM: in your FRONTAL LOBE
  • LUM: at the back of the brain (OCCIPTIAL LOBE & CEREBELLUM)

Do this meditation at least one time each day.

Month 10 Lecture

In addition to the meditation practice, listen to the Month 10 lecture on a regular basis.  Make a commitment to listen every day or at least once a week. Again, you can do it while you work, drive, cook, etc.

Share Your Feedback

Assess your experiences on a daily or weekly basis and share with other group members through the weekly meditation calls, Facebook, or email. Community support provides everyone with an opportunity to express your relationship with the Divine as well as learn tips or strategies from others.
